Products — Green Products

There are many elements to consider when selecting products for their environmental impact.  Many manufacturers are altering the way they create their materials in order to lessen any negative effect production processes have on the planet.  Raw materials used production methods, energy sources, transportation distance and product durability all contribute to the highly complex and individual green story of a particular product.  Schroeder works diligently to verify that the products we represent are being produced responsibly.  We do not source or supply second-quality materials produced by questionable manufacturers.

We have chosen the following environmentally friendly products to highlight, but there are green arguments to be made for many different materials we offer.  We are happy to discuss the relative merits of our clients’ selections!

Wool Carpet is one of the purest, most ecological fibers in the world.  Natural and annually renewable, wool is a truly sustainable fiber with the ability to biodegrade without harm to the planet and can be recycled.  Wool is inherently resilient, soil resistant, flame retardant and a natural insulator.  It also thrives in the high average temperatures and varying humidity of the central Texas climate.  Wool carpets save energy by reducing heat loss and heat gain through floors.

Cork uses the material extracted from the bark of the cork oak tree.  The bark protects the cork tree during its average 500-year life span.  Cork bark is inherently resistant to fire, more than 38 species of insects including the termite and the development of microbes.  Cork is an eminently sustainable product because only the bark is peeled off the outside of the tree.  The tree itself is never felled.

Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource, replenishing itself at least as quickly as it is used by human enterprise.  When harvested sustainably, the plant re-grows from the same root stalk, maturing in just a few years.
