Family Home with a splash of glam!

This house, filled with three young children, is a perfect example of how a family home can still be glamorous. You can see the the touches of glam in every room – rich stones on the fireplace, classic navy blue ceramic tile with brass finishes and gorgeous tile choices in the master bathroom.

The interior of the house was designed by Annie Downing Interiors & Decoration.

This living room fireplace features a stunning herringbone pattern in stone. The material is from Walker Zanger‘s Helsinki Collection in Silver Dusk.

This little girl’s room features Hibou Home‘s Gymkhana wallpaper. This equestrian themed wallcovering with silhouettes of jumping horses and riders, is perfect for a girl that loves horses! The stunning print will give any room a hint of individuality.

The boy’s room features Cole & Son’s Hick’s Grand in blue. This bold, large scale design works well for many different rooms besides a boy’s room. The design would also work well in a library, a bedroom, a hallway and really anywhere!

The master bathroom is simply gorgeous. The natural stone in a herringbone pattern on the floor to the soft gray ceramic tile on the wall, gives this bathroom a jewel-like feel. Isn’t it fabulous?

The boy’s bathroom has a nautical twist to it. The blue ceramic tile is both on the floor and on the wall. The bath and shower features beveled white subway tile and the fixtures have a brass or gold finish.

Bathroom Beauty: Wallpaper and Marble

We wanted to share with you a wallpaper installation that was recently completed. Schroeder installed Cole and Son’s Rajapur wallpaper in this new bathroom. We think the big paisley print goes perfectly with the delicate pattern on the floor.

Celebrity Style Corner: Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz’s Manhattan apartment was featured in a recent issue of Elle Decor. Designed by Kelly Wearstler, the apartment has a little sparkle and a little shine – just what every girl wants!

Diaz’s living room features a beautiful grasscloth wallpaper that adds a soft and organic feeling to the room. Grasscloth is a natural fiber and is a great way to add texture to a room.

To emulate the grasscloth seen above, what about Schumacher’s Onna Sisal in Paprika or Phillip Jeffries’ Bermuda Hemp in Ecru?

This beautiful kitchen features black hardwood floors. Black hardwood is a gorgeous and unexpected choice. The color is a neutral hue and will go well with many different styles whether it’s contemporary, modern or even traditional.

To get this look, try out the Royal Oak’s Collection in Black Tea or Kentwood’s Brushed Oak in Black Tusk. (The Black Tusk is extra fun because it was a hint of sparkle to it.)

Famous Designer Series: Madeleine Castaing

We were recently introduced to the work of Madeleine Castaing, a French antique dealer and interior designer. Her designs were original and whimsical and many say she revolutionized the world of decoration and design.

“She used colors and patterns that make you wince when you hear them in the same sentence,” […] “But when you see this house in person, you realize how perfect her taste was.”

BOLD carpet and ECLECTIC wallpaper

As you can see from these photos, Castaing really did like to mix and match prints in a space. The carpet in these photos are large and bold prints on a white background.  We think that Stark’s Ellipse in black and white is the prefect compliment to Castaing’s carpet. Stark’s bold Ellipse design is both modern and contemporary and would do well in a variety of settings.

STARK’s Ellipse

These Cole & Son palm wallpaper styles look similar to the wallpaper Castaing has on the walls of the room below. Both of these palm wallpapers have different hues of greens and provide a vibrant and eclectic pattern to a room.

TRADITIONAL design with a hint of LEOPARD

These two rooms below scream contradiction but also scream STYLE. We think that Helio’s Leopard nylon carpet is the perfect match to the one in this photo. Let’s get real – everyone needs a little leopard in their life anyways. So why not as your carpet? Oh, you want more? What about this beautiful wool leopard print from Langhorne? Langhorne’s high quality wool broadloom carpet will make any room (and customer) happy. The colors in this leopard pattern are neutral hues that really can be a backdrop to any style of room.

Inspiration: African Safari

We are ready for safari here at Schroeder! Africa provides some wonderful inspiration for designers. These are some of our favorite products that make us dream of an African safari.

1) This exotic wallpaper reminds us of a sultry jungle somewhere in Africa. We love the dark background with the bright green and blue palm fronds. Sometimes the unexpected can be the best solution to a room! This wallpaper is Cole & Son’s Palm Jungle.

2) This stunning hardwood floor is DuChateau’s Zimbabwe engineered wood. It is has a natural oiled and a wire brush finish. It has an exotic look that could be perfect for a modern or contemporary room.  (See a photo below of an installation.)

3) This neutral but fun nylon carpet is Helios’ Cheetah print. The neutral colors allow it to go with any room. Nylon is great material because it’s easy to take care of and performances well in high traffic areas. (See a photo below of an installation.)

Inspiration: Tan and Wood

We love this photo of our client’s entry way. The gorgeous hardwood floors have a rich and deep tone that is common with natural oil hardwood floors. We also really like the wall covering that is an enlarged drawing of mimosa. It’s an unexpected surprise that’s modern and delicate. And finally the custom area rug with a modern geometric design pulls together the rich hardwood floors and delicate wallpaper.

For this photo we were inspired by other beautiful products that can be found in our showroom:

1) Client’s entry way: The wallpaper is Cole & Son’s Mimosa and the foliage is in yellow and silver/grey. The beautiful hardwood floors is Navarre’s oil hardwood floors and the custom area rug is Silver Creek with a geometric design.)

2) Cole & Son’s Palm wallpaper is a great looking design. The palm trees are reminiscent of 1950’s design, Frank Sinatra and Palm Springs. Cole & Son has a number of color variations for this design and they are FUN!

3) Stark’s Brix pattern seen here in white/natural is a wonderful geometric pattern. Made of 100% wool, this carpet can be made into a custom area rug or installed wall-to-wall. It comes in two additional colors.

4) Castle Combe’s Chippenham is a great example of high-quality natural oil hardwood floors. Chippenham has the look and feel of reclaimed wood. It features a combination of hand carved fissures, wire brushed surface, handscraping and staining.

Colors for the New Year!

Pantone’s color report for 2013 is out and the new colors are beautiful and vibrant! They symbolize a balancing act between classic and new, vibrant and grounded colors. These hues are meant for us to find a sense of calm and tranquility in our hectic and busy lives.

2013’s colors: Dusk Blue, Emerald, Grayed Jade, Tender Shoots, Lemon Zest, African Violet, Linen, Monaco Blue, Nectarine and Poppy Red.

Although these colors are fashion colors, they can easily be translated into your house. How? Here are our top four colors and the products that we think would complement them well.

#1 Emerald

Emerald is THE color of the year. Expect to see this green hue on the catwalk and at home! Emerald is a sophisticated color that is lively and radiant. Not only does the color bring us closer to Mother Nature but it also gives a sense of well-being.

The color emerald is paired with two funky wallpapers: palm trees and malachite. Wallpaper can be eclectic and fun! This beautiful hardwood floor by DuChateau showcases the natural patterns and beauty of wood. All these products are available at Schroeder.

#2 Nectarine

Nectarine is reminiscent of 2012’s color of the year (Tangerine Tango), though Nectarine is a little more muted and soft. The color can also be described as a citrus color with undertones of coral. This color can easily stand alone in a room or it can be an accent such as wallpaper, area rug or accent pillows.

This orange hue is paired with an orange Missoni sisal rug and a coral Moroccan-inspired wallpaper. Also shown is emma gardner‘s area rug. This beautiful rug is hand-knotted Tibetan wool and Chinese silk and can be custom made into any size and is available at Schroeder.

#3 Monaco Blue

Monaco Blue is a classic color. The blue hue is soft and restrained yet vibrant and cheerful. This is the perfect color to pair with any of the colors mentioned above as it goes with all of them. Monaco Blue represents stability and serenity in any room.

Monaco Blue is paired with a greek key designed blue wool carpet from STARK and a geometric blue wallpaper. This exotic-looking hardwood from DuChateau is two toned and makes for a dramatic yet beautiful floor. All of the products are available at Schroedrer.

#4 Lemon Zest

Lemon Zest is a beautiful and bright hue of yellow. It can add a refreshing element to any room. This lively color can be paired with basic colors to add happiness and cheer. We think that Lemon Zest is going to be big in 2013!

This beautiful yellow hue is paired with two modern wallpapers. Today’s wallpaper isn’t just stripes and flowers but exciting and modern designs! Also paired with Lemon Zest is a wool area rug that would bring a cheerful lift to a room! All the products are available at Schroeder.
