2015 Color of the Year: Marsala

Pantone has announced 2015’s color of the year: Marsala. “A naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls. The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors,” says Pantone.

Whether you decide to drape your home in the new color of the year or just add a touch a new color, here are our suggestions on how to coordinate and complement MARSALA!

Cole & Son’s Woods Wallpaper:  The black and white trees are a neutral design that looks great with any color especially the earthy marsala. Add marsala colored pillows, throw or duvet to this room scene.

Custom area rug from Antrim’s wool collection:

Antrim carries a wide variety of thick, warm and rich wool styles. These wools come in broadloom but can be made into any size area rug desired. This room scene from demonstrates the use of a thick, rich wool in a modern room. As you can see, the wool creates an organic earthy tone –  perfect with the color marsala.

Antrim’s Glory or Woolridge would be great options for a custom area rug in your home.

Family Home with a splash of glam!

This house, filled with three young children, is a perfect example of how a family home can still be glamorous. You can see the the touches of glam in every room – rich stones on the fireplace, classic navy blue ceramic tile with brass finishes and gorgeous tile choices in the master bathroom.

The interior of the house was designed by Annie Downing Interiors & Decoration.

This living room fireplace features a stunning herringbone pattern in stone. The material is from Walker Zanger‘s Helsinki Collection in Silver Dusk.

This little girl’s room features Hibou Home‘s Gymkhana wallpaper. This equestrian themed wallcovering with silhouettes of jumping horses and riders, is perfect for a girl that loves horses! The stunning print will give any room a hint of individuality.

The boy’s room features Cole & Son’s Hick’s Grand in blue. This bold, large scale design works well for many different rooms besides a boy’s room. The design would also work well in a library, a bedroom, a hallway and really anywhere!

The master bathroom is simply gorgeous. The natural stone in a herringbone pattern on the floor to the soft gray ceramic tile on the wall, gives this bathroom a jewel-like feel. Isn’t it fabulous?

The boy’s bathroom has a nautical twist to it. The blue ceramic tile is both on the floor and on the wall. The bath and shower features beveled white subway tile and the fixtures have a brass or gold finish.

Bathroom Beauty: Wallpaper and Marble

We wanted to share with you a wallpaper installation that was recently completed. Schroeder installed Cole and Son’s Rajapur wallpaper in this new bathroom. We think the big paisley print goes perfectly with the delicate pattern on the floor.

Schroeder sourced and installed Cole and Son‘s Rajapur wallpaper. The house was a project of Larry Anderson Construction Inc. What a beautiful bathroom!

Schroeder is located near downtown Austin. We accept walk-ins though we highly suggest appointments so that we may give you our fullest attention. Tile selection is by appointment only. Schroeder was recently voted “Best Source for Carpet and Hardwood in Austin” by Austin Home magazine. Come see us today!

Famous Designer Series: Madeleine Castaing

We were recently introduced to the work of Madeleine Castaing, a French antique dealer and interior designer. Her designs were original and whimsical and many say she revolutionized the world of decoration and design.

“She used colors and patterns that make you wince when you hear them in the same sentence,” […] “But when you see this house in person, you realize how perfect her taste was.”

BOLD carpet and ECLECTIC wallpaper

As you can see from these photos, Castaing really did like to mix and match prints in a space. The carpet in these photos are large and bold prints on a white background.  We think that Stark’s Ellipse in black and white is the prefect compliment to Castaing’s carpet. Stark’s bold Ellipse design is both modern and contemporary and would do well in a variety of settings.

These Cole & Son palm wallpaper styles look similar to the wallpaper Castaing has on the walls of the room below. Both of these palm wallpapers have different hues of greens and provide a vibrant and eclectic pattern to a room.

These two rooms below scream contradiction but also scream STYLE. We think that Helio’s Leopard nylon carpet is the perfect match to the one in this photo. Let’s get real – everyone needs a little leopard in their life anyways. So why not as your carpet? Oh, you want more? What about this beautiful wool leopard print from Langhorne? Langhorne’s high quality wool broadloom carpet will make any room (and customer) happy. The colors in this leopard pattern are neutral hues that really can be a backdrop to any style of room.
